John's will. Obtained from Lincolnshire RO, Sep 2011

  • Notes
    • Robert was the only beneficiary of his father’s will. He was left 8 acres of land to have or sell. His children weren’t mentioned and it’s possible that they were born after 1541. John appoints a supervisor but doesn’t mention any bequests left in trust for Robert, so he could have been of age but a young man?

Robert left a will. He was a husbandman and seems to have been moderately prosperous as he had at least 6 acres of copyhold land, his own plough and horses and some cattle. He bequeathed his copyhold land to his wife Juliana (executrix and residuary legatee) for her lifetime. It was then to go to his daughter, Margaret. Although his son John got the plough, animals and some household goods, he didn’t get any land. Perhaps he had something already. Robert didn’t mention any property but he did mention a Thomas E1831 and Marion Rippingale E1832 but didn’t say how they were related to him . A Marion Rippingale was married in Long Bennington

It’s not clear (to me) if the copyhold land that Robert mentions in his will is the same as the 8 acres land ‘to give or sell’ bequeathed to him in his father’s will. If it were different, then his will makes more sense, as perhaps his son John got this by right [1, 2]
